The Hands Behind the Craft

Born in Oita, Japan, my connection to the natural world and the joy of handcrafting began early. As a child, my days were spent planting trees, carving wooden spoons, and learning the ancient art of making traditional washi paper. This deep-rooted love for tactile, detailed work—paired with a lifelong discipline from twelve years of competitive swimming—eventually led me into nursing, where I dedicated years to the delicate environments of pediatrics and the operating room.

At CANDLE MOMO, I bridge these two worlds. I bring the refined, mindful spirit of Japanese monozukuri (the art of making things) into the Pacific Northwest, blending the clean, structured aesthetic of my roots with the vibrant energy of my new home.

Our Philosophy: Conscious, Minimal, Intentional 

CANDLE MOMO is a reflection of everything I love: the quiet elegance of minimal, functional design blended with a touch of playful warmth and the beauty of things made by hand.

Purity of Materials: We believe a candle should be as kind to your body as it is to the earth. We use exclusively 100% natural wax, conscious packaging made from recyclable materials, and scent our creations primarily with pure, plant-derived essential oils rather than synthetic fragrances.

The Warmth of the Maker: In a world of mass production, we choose the slow path. Every candle is poured and sculpted with immense patience. We design our pieces not just to be burned, but to be styled and appreciated as sculptural art—allowing you to feel the quiet warmth and energy of the human hands that shaped them.

A Botanical Legacy: Growing up, my mother and grandmother filled my world with a deep appreciation for flowers. To honor this lineage, our botanical collection features real, seasonally inspired flora sourced directly from local farmers right here in Washington State.
